Connection speeds have never suffered so much
The COVID-19 outbreak has brought to the surface glaring issues with home some broadband connections particularly when supplied by a cheap wholesale provider, sorry Sky. Last year I felt internet connectivity as a product needed a facelift in order to cope with new and future demands, sadly I was right.
Connection speeds have never suffered so much. Let’s look at what is probably happening in your home on a daily basis.
- Netflix the go to binge-watch
- Virtual hangouts with family and friends
- Alexa, Spotify, iPlayer, more catchup…
- And finally we have to work, YES work ?
Our normal working day now looks like this.
- Zoom meeting at 10am
- Telephone conference at 11:15am
- Microsoft Teams lunch catchup at 1pm
- Webinar at 3pm
Emails, calls and everything else in between, seem familiar?
Here comes the problem, your work schedules clash with the virtual hangouts and now the internet connection can’t cope. Your Zoom colleagues may think you are broadcasting from the moon and you sound like Norman Collier is behind the microphone.
What can you do for free?
Of course cost is a massive issue right now however, so is reliably working from home. What can you do for free to try and make things better?
Are your appliances not getting on so well
You may have bought a wireless extender to help. Sometimes these actually make things worse. Try to move the router somewhere more central if possible and avoid extenders unless they are setup correctly.
Have a move around. Microwave ovens, baby monitors, cordless phones and Wifi all emit electromagnetic rays in order to work. These can conflict with each other if too close together.
Where possible always connect the router direct to the master telephone socket opposed to an extension. If you have a phone connected to other extension sockets make sure they plugged into a microfilter. While we are on the subject of microfilters only use one at a time in each socket.
It’s easier than you think as long as you are out of contract and takes around 14 days. There is normally a cost associated however, we have an offer on this month where we will migrate your line and broadband for FREE ?
What can you do at a cost?
Change your router, the free one you may have been given could be the same as the service, cheap. Better quality routers are faster and some are able to prioritise certain devices and types of internet traffic.
Internal wiring may cause the internet to slow down if old and not up to the job. It may be worth getting this looked at. Hopefully yours doesn’t look like this…
We like plain talk and transparency when it comes to service and why should broadband be any different. It is important to choose a product wisely with a service level to suit your needs.
We hate long contracts, our ethos since we started was to provide a service you wanted to use rather than one you were bound to. Great news! All HashKey Broadband ADSL and FTTC fibre services we provide have a ONE month contract, just like our other services. This is not just great for peace of mind but also convenient for temporary connections.
If you are thinking of changing provider or need a hand then we would love to help you.
